Dog Haus: Building on Nostalgia With an American Favorite
In this episode of Fast Casual Nation, brought to you by Chepri, host Paul Barron sits down with Adam Gertler, the official “Würstmacher” (sausage-maker) of gourmet hot dog chain Dog Haus.
Founded in 2010, Dog Haus has found a winning formula with its unique craft casual style. In partnership with founders Hagop Giragossian, Quasim Riaz, and André Vener, Gertler shepherds a menu filled with classic comfort foods like hot dogs, sausages, burgers, and tater tots reimagined for an elevated palate. The California-based chain currently maintains more than thirty fast casual joints and biergartens.
“It’s super comfort food with a lot of flavor,” says Gertler. “Hot dogs and sausages can vary tremendously in quality. We wanted to save the reputation of the hot dog.”
Dog Haus joints seem to mirror that goal—they look and feel familiar, but evoke the quirks of their location. “Each store has a unique feel to where it is,” adds Gertler. “We don’t want to be completely cookie cutter.”
